AL GAMBOA (head coach/owner)
Al Gamboa was born and raised in Lubbock. He attended Lubbock High School followed by Texas Tech. As a freshman at LHS, Al and his friends thought gymnastics lessons would enhance their “ninja” skills. After a few months in the gym he really grew to love the sport, appreciate his coaches and enjoy the friendships he made. With the mentorship and guidance of his coach Laura Borchardt, Al became more disciplined, more confident, and encouraged for a positive future. By senior year, Al was competing as the Team Captain and the Student Assistant Coach . He excelled in floor as well as vault. In 1990, Al took his first official coaching job at the YWCA. Coaching quickly became a passion and progressed to a full time labor of love. Rock Solid since 2011, Al is the Head Coach for the women’s team. He has since coached hundreds of athletes from ages 5-18 and strives to get each one to their fullest potential. The list of State, Regional and Western champions he has coached is impressive. He is often a guest coach at various camps and clinics throughout the region. Al has a heart of gold and a gift to connect with the kids on a coaching level that they respond to and respect. His experience, devotion to the kids, and the humor to keep the workouts fun results in happy, healthy and well rounded athletes that remain connected to him throughout the decades. The positive impact that gymnastics has made on Al, and the positive impact that Al has made on others is immeasurable. “Vivere, Amare, Erant, Deum”.
Al has served Texas USAG as the District 1 Representative since 2005 and holds the following certifications: USA Gymnastics Professional Member; USAG Safety Certification; USA Gymnastics Coaching 101; 1st Aid/CPR
Al enjoys many hobbies and activities outside of the gym including: cycling, traveling, music and outdoor adventures.
My name is Aaron Beaver. I am currently a pre-med student at Texas Tech University majoring in animal science with minors in chemistry and biology. I hope to graduate fall of 2018 and eventually become a pediatrician. I absolutely love working at Rock Solid because I enjoy working with kids since I am still a kid at heart!
